Description

Dear IMD Alumni,

We are delighted to invite you to a dinner event with Professor Howard Yu from IMD on July 15, 2019. Professor Howard Yu will give a talk about his best-selling book: “LEAP: How to Thrive in a World Where Everything Can Be Copied. The event is also a celebration on the Chinese version of LEAP to be launched the same week, as part of Howard’s book tour to Taipei.

Despite patent filings, market dominance, and financial resources, copycat competition continues to pose an existential threat to all businesses, even in Silicon Valley. How can a business shield itself from copycats? In a book of narrative history and practical strategy, Howard shows that succeeding today is no longer just a matter of mastering the old tactics; companies also need to continue the discovery process, harnessing new strategies and advancements in technology while leveraging shifts in the marketplace. He identifies five fundamental principles that allow companies to make a leap and stay successful. He illustrates them with historical narratives that span a wide range of industries, countries, and eras—from textiles to pianos, from pharmaceuticals to digital apps, from Greenville, South Carolina and New York City to Basel and Tokyo, and from the 19th century to the imminent future.

LEAP has been selected among “the top 3 business book on strategy in 2018” by strategy +business and also the “10 Best Business Books of 2018” by Inc. magazine. Howard was shortlisted for the 2017 Thinkers50 Innovation Award, and in 2018 appeared on the Thinkers50 Radar list of 30 management thinkers “most likely to shape the future of how organizations are managed and led.”
